This is the one-minute slice of today's morning companion: a verse and a step. If it helps, there's a quiet door to the full day below.
“The glory of the LORD entered the temple by way of the gate facing the east. The spirit lifted me up and brought me into the inner court, and the glory of the LORD filled the temple. […] Son of man, this is the place of my throne, the place for the soles of my feet, where I will dwell among the Israelites forever.” Ezekiel 43:4–5,7
Today there will be a moment when you could go toward the same thing by two different roads: one because it is right, the other because someone happens to be watching. Notice the one time you were about to take the second road.
Then turn back. Do the same thing quietly, without a witness, or if you can, let it go entirely, and just admit to yourself that widening the strap was the actual goal, not the thing itself.
And if someone praises you today, don't push it away. Receive it the way you would a gift you never had to earn. That, too, is a way of keeping the gate open.
