God Is Here Even Now
God is here even now, and he isn't waiting for a monument from you. Just notice: he's already sitting beside you, this very minute.
You don't have to show him how many trials you've survived. It's enough to grow quiet for one breath, and let his presence reach you.
Today's Guiding Word
“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world, to be holy and blameless in his sight.” Ephesians 1:4
In today's Gospel, Jesus names people who build tombs for the prophets their own ancestors killed, while carrying the same closed heart that guided the hands that did the killing: celebrating yesterday while repeating it today. God's plan runs the opposite way. He isn't building a monument to the past. He decided, before time began, to set you free today.
Walk Toward the Light in God's Presence
It's a strange thing, building a monument to people you once killed, while still carrying the same closed heart that guided the hand that killed them. That's what Jesus sees in today's Gospel. The scribes honor the dead prophets, yet shut the door on living truth exactly the way their ancestors did. They took away the key of knowledge, not out of fear for themselves so much as because an open door is dangerous to anyone who'd rather stay safe in yesterday's religion than actually meet God today.
History doesn't have to repeat itself, but the warning still reaches us. We don't have to kill anyone to fall into the same trap. It's enough to let pride, vanity, or the love of comfort close something in us that God wanted to leave open. That's our own quiet battlefield, the one nobody else sees but him.
Paul paints an entirely different picture this same morning. God's plan wasn't born today, and it didn't grow out of anything you've accomplished. It was hidden from before time, and now, in Christ, it's been revealed - not as abstract information, but as a force meant to set your whole day in motion. You don't need to build a monument to any past faithfulness. It's enough to let this old, newly revealed plan actually be born in you today.
Before she believed, Edith Stein once walked into a church on an ordinary afternoon, just to see what it looked like inside. She noticed a woman there, shopping bag in hand, clearly on her way to cook dinner, who stopped for a few minutes before the Blessed Sacrament. That woman never learned what happened in Edith's heart that day. That was all it took: an ordinary faithfulness nobody saw but God, and it opened a path to faith for someone who was searching. The world isn't saved by grand gestures - a small, honest faithfulness is enough.
Today's step: don't build a monument - pay attention to presence
Pick one small, ordinary moment today: waiting somewhere, a conversation, a quiet minute. Don't let your attention drift to the past or the future in it; put your whole heart exactly where you are. Dare to be fully present in that moment, without holding back, the way that woman set out only to cook dinner and still stopped, with her whole self, for one minute before God.
That's your monument: not carved in stone, but built today, now, out of honest attention.
I Praise You, Living God
Father, who planned for me before time began
I praise you, Father, because long before I drew a single breath, you had already decided to love me. Not because I'd earned it, but because that was your eternal intention, even before the world was made. I bless you, because your plan isn't a cold fate, but a father's patient, attentive love, who knows exactly what I need before I recognize it myself.
I exalt you, because you don't ask me for monuments to my past. You ask me to let what you decided about me long ago take root in today. I adore you, because your love doesn't look backward, it looks forward: every day you choose again to be close to me.
Lord Jesus, who tore down the wall of dead stones
I praise you, Lord Jesus, because you weren't afraid to say what the scribes didn't want to hear: a monument built for dead prophets saves no one who closes their own heart to living truth today. I bless you, because you yourself became someone no tomb could hold. You rose, so that we wouldn't celebrate the past, but meet you, the living Lord, right now.
I exalt you, because your love isn't an old story we recall, it's a living reality still searching for me today. I adore you, because you hold the key of knowledge the scribes took away, and you give it freely to anyone who honestly asks.
Holy Spirit, who quietly opens the door
I praise you, Holy Spirit, because you're the one who can open a path to a searching heart through one ordinary woman's quiet prayer, in a way she herself never finds out about. I bless you, because you're not looking for my grand gestures, just that one moment when I stop, fully, without holding back, in front of you.
I exalt you, because you're the one unfolding in me what the Father planned from eternity, not all at once, but day by day, as far as I let you lead. I adore you, because you're present in every small faithfulness no one else notices but you.
Trinity, one living God, who opens today for me
I praise you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one living God. The Father planned this day from eternity; the Son tore down the wall that would have stood between the dead past and the living present; the Spirit opens the way, right now, this very minute, for that plan to actually be born in me.
Today I'm not watching a monument - I'm watching you, who are alive, and who call me to live too, now. Glory to you, even on this Thursday morning. Amen.
Here I Am, Lord
Lord, here I am, and I haven't come with some monument I've built, just as I actually am this morning. I bring my body, which maybe still moves slowly, and my soul, which would rather look back at yesterday than face today.
I bring the loneliness that sometimes speaks up in me even surrounded by people, and the anxiety that wants to secure in advance what only you can actually hold. I'm not asking for either to vanish right now, only that I let the plan you made for me from eternity find room in me today too.
I bring my family and the people I'll meet today, my work, my tasks, the decisions where I default to safety instead of courageous faithfulness. Let me dare to be fully present today, wherever you place me, whether anyone notices or not.
Thank you for not waiting on me for a perfect monument. It's enough, right now, in this minute, to let you be close.
Today's Worship Song
This song names exactly the hope today's Napi ráhangoló reflection pointed to: what holds you isn't a mood, it's that your hope stands in Christ alone. Don't let it fade into the background; let it remind you that the plan spoken of today isn't an abstract idea, but a Person.
In Christ Alone

Today's devotional is built on the Gospel (Lk 11:47-54: Jesus names those who build tombs for prophets their own ancestors killed, and who took away the key of knowledge) and the first reading (Eph 1:1-10: God's saving plan, hidden from eternity and now revealed in Christ). Fr. Barsi Balázs's blog (barsitelekmm.blogspot.com) had not yet carried Thursday's post by the time of this morning's run - the most recent entry there was still Wednesday's - so the secondary source, the Zarándok.ma Napi ráhangoló newsletter, was used instead; it draws on the same first reading and speaks of the final hope received in Christ, one that no persecution can extinguish. The Regnum Christi reflection drew on today's Gospel and the feast of Saint Teresa of Avila, warning that history doesn't have to repeat itself, and used Edith Stein's conversion story to show the weight of one ordinary, seemingly small faithfulness - today's step grew out of that. The Cistercian House's short subject line today ("the awareness of my presence") is itself the day's thought, with no body text. The Miracle Every Day letter called for daring fully, without holding back - that gave today's step its voice. Today's (October 15) Jesus Calling and Daily Hope emails had not yet arrived by the time of this morning's run, so the most recent available editions (October 14) were used for both. First15 again had no substantial, original reflection today, so it wasn't drawn on.
The road we walk together
Yesterday was about fruit that ripens quietly from a living root, not all at once; today carries that further - don't build a monument to the past, dare to be fully, unreservedly present in the today God planned for you from eternity.
