Pause for a moment. That is all. Take a slow breath, and let the silence surround you.
You are not alone in this morning. The Father's love is here, like the air you are breathing in right now. Jesus leans close, he knows your name, and he does not watch your life from the outside; he is sitting here beside you. The Holy Spirit quietly breathes life into the places where you are tired, where you are anxious, where your heart has been left orphaned.
You do not have to reach up to him. He came to you. And he is here even now, with you, in this very minute.
„Whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother, and sister, and mother." Matthew 12:50 · today's Gospel
And over it bends the word of mercy from today's reading: „Who is a God like you, who pardons sin? … He treads our iniquities underfoot, and casts all our sins into the depths of the sea." (Micah 7:18-19)
There is a burden many people carry into the morning. It is not loud. It just sits there in the chest: the feeling that I belong to no one. That I will not be enough. The tiredness that settles on the shoulders already at waking. If this morning you bring this too, you are in the right place. God does not ask you to put it down first and then come before him. You may come just as you are.
In today's Gospel someone says to Jesus: „your mother and your brothers are looking for you." And he looks around at those sitting near him and says something surprising. Whoever does the Father's will is his brother, his sister, his mother. He does not ask for achievement. Only a quiet turning toward him. And in that one movement you are no longer an orphan. You are home, in the family of the one who never sends you away.
And if your heart whispers now that „there is too much wrong in me," listen to the word of today's reading. Micah does not speak about the perfect, but about a God who has no equal. One who does not hold on to anger forever, because his delight is mercy. He does not weigh out your sins. He casts them into the depths of the sea. There, where no one will ever find them again. This is not your merit. This is his nature.
This is where light comes out of darkness. Not because you make yourself look stronger than you are, but because you have someone to belong to. Christ himself walked through the deepest loneliness so that he could lead you home even from there. And out of the silence of the tomb he rose and stepped into the light. His victory is the ground beneath your feet this morning.
And because you belong to him, today you may also rest in him. Today's message from Baja puts it this way: resting is not necessarily idleness. The quiet of a tired heart is not laziness. The deepest trust is when you set the burden down and let the Father work where you can no longer manage. It is not your shoulders that hold up the world. You have a Brother who has already held it.
Do not look at the size of the burden now. Only at whom you belong to. From here a quiet step toward the light begins.
Choose one burden you brought with you this morning. A worry. An old guilt. A thought in which you feel alone. Say it quietly, in simple words: „Lord, I give this to you." Then slow down, and picture Micah's image before you. The burden slowly sinks beneath the water, out of your hand, into the depths of mercy. You do not have to reach after it again.
And if during the day the old voice returns, saying you are alone, do not argue with it. Just take a breath, and say quietly: „I belong to Christ." That is enough. A handhold you can carry with you into work, into a conversation, into a quiet hour.
I praise you, because you do not measure out crumbs, but open the floor of the sea and bury there what I am ashamed to carry. Who is this God, who does not hoard up anger the way a person holds on to old grievances, but takes delight in mercy? You do not offer a bargain, you set a table; you do not take me on for a trial period, you call me by name. You know me before my thought, you keep count of my weariness, and when I let go of the day, your hand does not grow weary. You are holy, and yet you bend down. I exalt you, because your will is not a yoke on my neck, but a path beneath my feet that leads me home.
I bless you, because you bent down to the very bottom of loneliness, to the place where even words run out, and from there you spoke over me: my brother, my sister, my mother. You did not pity me from the outside. You stepped into my night, and you did not bring the light with you, you became light within it. Your cross stripped bare the accuser's lie, your blood cut a road toward home, and when the tomb thought it was over, you kindled a dawn on the stone. You are greater than my past, greater than my wound, greater than the voice that whispers each morning that I am alone. You walk ahead of me, you stand beside me, and when I fall, you do not lean over me with reproach, you reach beneath me.
I praise you, because you make alive in me what the Father conceived and the Son has won. You are the stirring in the depth of the silence, the ember in the tired heart that has not gone out. Come, and straighten what has bent within me; loosen what has turned to stone; set free what anxiety has locked in a knot. Teach me to rest in such a way that my calm is not idleness but trust. And teach me to pray in such a way that I do not bend you to my plans, but sink into the love that has long been waiting.
Holy Trinity, one God: the Father who conceived me, the Son who brought me home, the Spirit who sings within me. I cannot comprehend you, and yet I dwell in you. This morning is yours, my breath is yours, all that I am is yours, now and forever.
Lord, here I am on the threshold of a new day. I give you my body and my soul. My tiredness, which settles on me already at waking, and also the hope that is reborn in you. Fill me with strength where I am weak.
I give you my loneliness and my anxiety. Where I feel that I belong to no one, remind me that I am part of your family. Where tomorrow makes me afraid, teach me to trust you for this one day.
I give you my family, all those I love. Take them into your protection, and love them today through me.
I give you my work, my tasks, the difficulties, the decisions I have to make. Give me wisdom, a clear mind and a peaceful heart, so that I choose well.
I give you my service and every encounter of this day. Let my words and my presence be a channel of your love toward others.
I do not rely on myself, Lord, but on you. Lead me from darkness into light, and hold me in your hand all the way to the rest of evening. Amen.
Today, do not listen to it as background music. Let the song become prayer: ask the Holy Spirit to answer with fire all that you laid on his altar this morning.
„All my life you have been faithful, and your goodness runs after me every day." This is today's message set to melody: the mercy that casts sin into the depths of the sea, and the faithfulness that does not grow tired when you grow tired.
