God Is Here Even Now
You don't have to explain where you've been the last few days. He already knows, and he's still here, in this quiet minute you're giving him now.
What matters this morning isn't how much oil you're carrying. What matters is that he bends down to you first, before you ask for anything.
Today's Guiding Word
"Therefore, stay awake, for you know neither the day nor the hour." Matthew 25:13
That same day, Paul preaches Christ crucified, which to many is a stumbling block or foolishness (1 Corinthians 1:23), and yet that is exactly where God's strength lives. What looks like weakness, a long wait, a cross, a request still unanswered, is where he's working the deepest.
Walk Toward the Light in God's Presence
The five wise young women didn't get into the wedding because they were more afraid than the other five. They got in because day after day they'd been collecting an oil that, in the middle of that particular night, simply couldn't be borrowed from anyone. Whatever you didn't fill up ahead of time, you won't make up for it in the middle of an unexpected night.
That kind of oil isn't abstract. A message that arrived this morning names it plainly: time spent with him is a double blessing, not because it's a duty to check off, but because every minute like that gathers as oil in your lamp. You don't need to picture long hours of prayer. One quiet morning, one attentive moment, one sentence actually spoken to him is enough.
Paul preaches Christ crucified that same day, and he says it plainly: to many, this looks ridiculous. A tortured, defeated man, crushed by power, what strength could be there? And yet that's exactly the place where God is most present. What the world calls weakness is where the longest-lasting strength takes shape. If hardship finds you today, that isn't proof your faith is thin. It's the place where he's already at work. There's an old wisdom about this: proclaiming the cross with integrity starts when we join the small sacrifices of our own life to Christ's. Not in theory, but in the actual shape of your day.
Augustine spent years searching for something he couldn't quite name. When he finally found it, he wrote that our heart stays restless until it rests in God. That restlessness wasn't a flaw in him. It was the lamp that kept burning the whole time, until the answer arrived. Yours can keep burning too, even while you still don't know when the hour will come.
Fill the Lamp Today
Find five or ten minutes today that belong to him alone, not because someone asked, not as a task, but because you want to give them. Sit in the quiet, read today's reading slowly, or simply tell him where you actually are.
If you feel like you're starting this morning with barely any oil, that's fine, it's just a beginning: every small moment like this is already oil for tomorrow's lamp. Whatever you plant in these few minutes, you'll harvest it exactly when you need it most.
I Praise You, Living God
Heavenly Father, who meets me before I go looking
I praise you for who you are. You never wait for me to pull myself together before I turn to you. While I'm still fumbling for my lamp, you're already holding the light.
I exalt you for what you do: you don't measure how much oil I've brought before you love me. Your love comes before anything I could ever show you.
Lord Jesus Christ, who showed your strength in weakness
I praise you for who you are. You let the cross look like foolishness, and that's exactly where you gave the most. You never protected your own dignity when love asked for something else.
I exalt you for what you did: in your death you hid a strength nothing could defeat. Whoever turns to you today takes hold of that same strength.
Holy Spirit, who keeps my waiting lit
I praise you for who you are. You're the flame that won't let me fall asleep in my own tiredness. When I have no strength left to watch, you watch for me.
I exalt you for what you're doing this morning: you turn every quiet minute I give him into oil that won't run out exactly when I need it.
Trinity, one God, who won't let my lamp go out
I praise you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one living God. The Father meets me before I go looking, the Son showed his strength in weakness, the Spirit keeps my waiting lit long after I'd have let it go dark. Glory to you, because my lamp doesn't burn on my own strength. Glory to you, because whatever time I give you is never wasted. Amen.
Here I Am, Lord
Here I am, Lord, not as a servant still trying to prove something, but as a child who has come home, with this body that so often rushes ahead before it stops to be with you. I place my tiredness in your hands, and the quiet worry that I might be running late for something I can't even see yet.
I place in your hands the people I love: my family, the ones I'll meet today, and the ones I've gone quiet with because I don't know what to say anymore. Give me enough oil that I have some left to give away, not just barely enough for myself.
I place today's work in your hands, my decisions, the situation where I'm not sure I'm choosing right. Wherever I feel weak, remind me that's exactly where your strength has room to stand.
Stay quiet beside him for one more minute. This minute is oil too.
A Song to Carry Into the Day
This song is about building on something today that you won't have to lay a new foundation for tomorrow. Don't just let it play in the background. While it plays, think of the few minutes you gave him this morning, and ask that they become solid ground for whatever unexpected night comes next.

Today's core message: watchfulness isn't anxiety, it's the time spent with him that gathers as oil in the lamp before you need it. Every regular source was available today; Fr. Barsi Balázs's primary web source (barsitelekmm.blogspot.com) hadn't posted today's entry yet at fetch time (still showing Aug 27), so today's Barsi Balázs material came from the Zarándok.ma daily newsletter instead, a secondary but full-text source that arrived matching today's liturgical day (21st Week in Ordinary Time, Friday).
The road we walk together
Yesterday was about the watch you don't stand alone; today it's about where the oil that keeps you awake actually comes from.
